Tyres transmit the driver’s intentions and the vehicle’s power.
Pressing the accelerator makes the car go faster and pressing the brake makes it slow down. Corners are manoeuvred smoothly. The driver’s intentions are transmitted correctly. Thanks to the friction generated between the tyres and the road surface.
The tyre contact area with the road surface is almost identical to the size of a postcard.
A car weighs approximately 1.6 tons. Each tyre touches the road surface for a postcard-sized area which supports a weight of around 400 Kg.
